Semi-Cassette Retractable Awnings are shading products that have been engineered to a more compact size compared to regular "open roll" awnings that are bulkier in size when their optional protective hoods are used. This is no longer a problem with semi cassette awnings, as they all come with a built-in aluminum hood as art of the frame and mechanism, thus allowing for a smaller, less intrusive size when mounted against a wall or under a soffit. The integrated hood remains close to the roller tube and the acrylic fabric rolled onto it, thus providing good protection from dust, rain, hail, or even rodents' or birds' nesting damage. The front of the awning normally has an optional fabric flap installed to help hide the spring-loaded arms of the awning system when retracted in. Motorized awnings are the most popular nowadays that allow opening and closing awnings as large as 20' x 10' or even larger at the touch of a remote control.
